About the Project
The old fittings had been failing for a long time. That means dark patches across a working floor where people are moving stock on trucks, and somebody forever up a lift changing tubes and ballasts. We stripped the lot out and retrofitted UFO style LED high bays in their place, working off a MEWP around the racking while the unit carried on running.
The fittings that went in put out three times the lumens of the ones they replaced, and draw half the energy doing it. That means every unit of power the lighting uses now does six times the work it did before. The floor is brighter than it has ever been, which is what matters when there are trucks moving round it, and it costs half as much to light. The tubes and ballasts nobody has to replace any more are on top of that.
While the circuits were open we upgraded the protection to RCBOs and fitted surge protection, so a fault on one light no longer takes the others out with it, and the new fittings are protected against transients coming in off the supply.
