How much could solar panels and a battery save me?
It depends on your roof, how much electricity your household uses and when, and your tariff. We model your expected savings during the design consultation, before you commit to anything.
Will a battery keep my home running in a power cut?
Only if the system is designed with backup. We can set up backup for your essential circuits or your whole home, and the battery takes over automatically if the grid goes down.
Can my home go completely off grid?
For the right property, yes. A fully off grid system needs careful sizing, a larger battery and usually a backup source of charging for the winter months. We will give you an honest view of what your home needs.
Is there VAT on home solar panels and batteries?
Solar panels installed in homes in Great Britain currently carry 0% VAT, and so do batteries installed with them. The zero rate is due to run until 31 March 2027.
Do you install heat pumps?
Heat pumps are installed by our trusted partner and connected to the same SolaX system as your solar and battery. Air source and ground source heat pumps can currently qualify for a £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in England and Wales.
Do I need planning permission?
Most homes can add roof mounted solar panels without planning permission, but listed buildings and some conservation areas have extra rules. We check this for you as part of the design.
Can I be paid for the electricity I export?
Yes. With an MCS certified installation, you can sign up to a Smart Export Guarantee tariff with an energy supplier and be paid for the electricity you send to the grid.
